All are welcome! Please bring a cup.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Klickitat County’s Critical Areas Ordinance (CAO)?
The Critical Areas Ordinance is required under Washington State law. It guides Klickitat County staff when reviewing and approving development applications.

What are critical areas?
There are five critical areas: wetlands, habitat, geologically hazardous areas, frequently flooded areas, and aquifer recharge.

What are some of the stated purposes of the CAO?
– Prevent degradation of critical areas;
– Conserve, protect, and; where feasible, restore critical areas and their functions and values;
– Protect unique, fragile and/or valuable elements of the environment, including ground and surface waters, anadromous fish species, and other fish and wildlife and their habitat.

Is there an issue with Klickitat County’s proposed CAO draft?
Yes. It significantly reduces protections for wetlands and fish and wildlife habitat conservation areas.
